This edition is the true sixth edition, and the first thus of Arnott's 'Completed Edition'. Questionnaire summary: Analytic philosophy only; no replies to articles in other journals. These may include philosophical interpretations of literature, literary investigations of classic works of philosophy, articles on the aesthetics of poetry and fiction, philosophy of mind or language relevant to literature, literature and empirical sciences, including recent psychology such as cognitive or evolutionary psychologyand theory of criticism. Would this be enough to show that The Shining meets condition [3]? Circulation: 1,

It is, after all, a work of fiction, not a report of the author's experience, as with memoir or autobiography. References do not stray far beyond philosophy. As he sees it, poetic devices such as dense and unusual syntax, rhythm, alliteration, metaphors, and the like are not usual or necessary in literary fiction. The articles ranged in length from five to 39 pages, with the average length about 18 pages. Please be sure to proofread your review carefully before submitting it.

The argument against mimetic and other definitions is that they would allow as art-literature much that isn't advanced for one or the other of these purposes. Or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? There are many topics I haven't listed hence "including"and certainly many topics I cannot touch on in this review. The rest go out to one or two referees, who are not asked to return a manuscript if they cannot read it within a certain time. And one very large part of fictional ontology, without which narrative fiction would simply not exist, is time, and this is, as I think the authors can justifiably claim, the first monograph-length analytic philosophical treatment of the topic.

Too, "Not all novels … are 'literary' " 31but even fictional stories that are not art-literature raise issues of ontology and emotional reaction. The abundance of psychologies, the variety of global religions, the legion of gurus and the proliferation of non-traditional spiritualities in the modern era beg for a universal paradigm that captures their essence and is inclusive of them all -- a visible representation of the laws of life as they relate to harmony and form, health and wholeness, and the principles of mathematics, science, spirituality, and psychology.

I conclude that each one is inadequate. Well, I say this, but the conditions are somewhat vague. Extensive notes and a separate bibliography are included at the end of each piece. For more than forty years, Philosophy and Literature has explored the dialogue between literary and philosophical studies.

The journal offers fresh, stimulating ideas in the aesthetics of literature, theory of criticism, philosophical interpretation of literature, and literary treatment of philosophy. Philosophy and Literature challenges the cant and pretensions of academic. I then moved on to primate evolution and Lynne Isbell’s book, The Fruit, the Tree and the Serpent.

Again, a brilliant review of a provocative book. Again, a review penned by the author. Same story with Nikolaos van Dam’s book, The Struggle for Power in Syria, and, in fact, with all the “Author Features” in October’s Montreal Review.
